Applications open for Bank of Botetourt scholarship
Bank of Botetourt’s ninth annual “Focused on You” Community Scholarship will provide $2,000 in financial assistance to local students. Three scholarships will be awarded: one for $1,000, one for $600, and one for $400 to support students in their pursuit of higher education. Eligible applicants include high school seniors and current college students with a GPA of 2.50 or higher who maintain an active banking relationship with Bank of Botetourt.
Applicants must submit a two-page essay addressing the topic: “How has Bank of Botetourt helped meet your family’s financial needs, and what difference has the Bank made in your community?”

Beekeepers Association offering scholarship
The Botetourt Beekeepers Association is offering a $500 scholarship to a deserving graduating senior. This scholarship aims to inspire young individuals to explore and support the fascinating world of beekeeping in the community.
The scholarship is a $500 monetary prize, plus a one-year complimentary membership to the Botetourt Beekeepers Association.
Current seniors attending James River High School, Lord Botetourt High School, a private school, or an approved homeschool program during the 2024-2025 school year may apply.
Applications must be submitted via email to botetourtbeekeepersassociation@gmail.com by April 1. Applications will be available at James River High School and Lord Botetourt High School.
Botetourt Sheriff’s Office offering scholarships to seniors
The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office has launched of the Sheriff Student Scholarship, a new program dedicated to supporting local students in their pursuit of higher education. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded, one for a graduating senior at James River High School and one for a graduating senior at Lord Botetourt High School.
This scholarship is made possible thanks to the generous support from community business partners. It is designed to support students who excel academically, demonstrate leadership, and have displayed a consistent commitment to serving the community through ongoing volunteer work and active participation in local initiatives.
Who Can Apply?
- Residents of Botetourt County (proof required)
- Students attending Virginia colleges, universities, or career/technical education programs
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrated leadership and community service

2. An essay about your educational goals, leadership experience, and community involvement
3. High school transcripts
4. A letter of recommendation from a non-family members
Applications are currently being accepted with a deadline to apply by April 15.

Botetourt Town and Country Women’s Club offering $1000 scholarship
The Botetourt Town and Country Women’s Club will present a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving senior female applicant from James River High School or Lord Botetourt High School. The application and details are on the schools’ websites. The deadline is April 15.

The Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce recently announced that it is awarding four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from James River, Lord Botetourt, and Botetourt Technical Education Center (BTEC).
These scholarships recognize students who are dedicated to furthering their education, pursuing career goals, and making an impact in their community. Each award will be paid directly to the student’s postsecondary institution at the start of the school year.
