Riders in the first Virginia’s Blue Ridge Gran Fondo (big ride) started in the rain Sunday morning at Ballast Point Brewery at Greenfield. There were 280 riders registered for one of the three different routes through Botetourt. They could take either a 30-mile, 50-mile or 80-mile ride through the countryside. There were volunteer-manned stops in Fincastle, Eagle Rock, Buchanan and Troutville. All three routes returned to Ballast Point where riders ate and got a beer. The event was organized by Muddy Squirrel.
