HANKS, Thomasine
Thomasine “Tommie” Hanks, 72, of Mocksville, N.C., formerly of Buchanan, died July 17, 2017 in Autumn Care Nursing Center.
She was born on March 5, 1945 in Galax, daughter of the late Edward Hanks and Pauline Bowman Hanks. She worked as a bartender at the High Point Furniture Market. She loved music, art, reading, writing poetry, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Being a people person, Thomasine loved her family and friends, and never met a stranger. “Tommie,” had been a resident of Autumn Care since March 24, 2017. Preceding her in death were two sisters, Jackie Houghton and Cathy Hampton, and niece Kelly Morris of Galax.
She is survived by one son, Peter (Shannon) Frank of Richmond; one sister, Ellen (Mark) Newman of Advance, N.C.; five grandchildren, Vinnie, Violet, Augustine, Desmond, and Perrin; one niece, Chris Everett of Buford, Ga.; one nephew, Lee Morris of High Point, N.C.; best friends in Buchanan, Melissa, Debbie and Joyce.
Her remains will be spread at a favorite bluff over the James River and in the Bowman family cemetery in Laurel Fork, Va. Condolences can be made at www.GrahamFuneralHome.net
VAUGHN, Marguerite L.
Marguerite Lee “Jackie” Vaughn passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Hermitage Richmond.
Jackie was born in Eagle Rock to the late Alonzo Edgar and Hattie Brooke Vaughn. She worked at the family business, Eagle Rock Milling and Manufacturing Co., for most of her career and retired from Gala Industries as an accountant in 2001. She lived in her hometown of Eagle Rock for nearly 76 years before moving to Hermitage Roanoke in 2001 and transferring to Hermitage Richmond in 2012.
Jackie was devoted to her family and friends and to her church. She was an accomplished seamstress, baker and candy maker and enjoyed ceramic making and bowling.
In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by five sisters: Mildred Dunning, Louise Madison, Clara Rice, Kitty Madison and Mary Elizabeth Stanley and six brothers: Alonzo Edgar, Jr., James, Paul, Philip, Richard and her twin, Charles.
Jackie is survived by her sister, Nellie “Petie” Vaughn Harry of Richmond and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, July 21, 2017 in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge with the Rev. Ray Sandifer officiating. Jackie’s family will receive friends starting at 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be private.
