Fincastle United Methodist Lenten Services

Fincastle United Methodist Church will hold two Wednesday Lenten Services and Lunch  on March 30 and April 6 in the Family Life Center, 137 S. Church Street, Fincastle.  These short 20 minute services begin at 12:05 p.m. and will be led by area pastors.  A home-cooked lunch will follow each service.  The service and meal is designed to last about one hour.  Takeout meals will be available.  The schedule for this year’s services is:

March 30 –  Rev. Dr.  David Dickerson, Fincastle Presbyterian Church, Fincastle,

Lunch – Potato Soup, Vegetable Beef Soup, Jello Salad, Muffins, Desserts

April 6 – Rev. Rob Lough, former pastor at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Daleville

Lunch – Chicken Salad Croissants, Fruit Salad, Chips, Desserts

The lunch menus are subject to change.  All safety protocols will be followed in preparing and serving the meal. Everyone is invited to attend these services during the season of Lent.

 

BAMA schedules Lenten services

The Buchanan Area Ministerial Association (BAMA) will be sponsoring Lenten services for the community during the season of Lent on Tuesdays. Remaining services are:

  • March 22 at noon at Trinity United Methodist Church
  • March 29 at noon at Virginia Presbyterian Church
  • April 5 at noon at Limestone Park under the Pavilion

 

St. Mark’s Episcopal having Lenten soup and salad with historical theology talks

What do you know about Anthropology? Do you have a High Anthropology or a Low Anthropology? What does the Bible Say? What does the Bible Say about Humanity? What About God? Anyone interested is invited for soup and salad and a historical theology talk about these weighty questions.

Talks began on Wednesday, March 9 and go through April 6. Food will be offered (no charge) in the church’s Ministry Center at 221 S. Roanoke Street, next to the post office. The talks begin at 7 p.m.

Speakers include David Zahl, managing editor of Mockingbird Ministries; The Rev. Dr. Todd Brewer, New Testament scholar; Dr. Ned Wisnefske; Charles and Helen Schumann, professor of Lutheran Theology at Roanoke College; and other highly regarded and noted speakers. Talks will be 15-20 minutes with 10 minutes of questions and answers. All are welcome.

Springwood Food Pantry open March 19

The Springwood Baptist Food Pantry will be open on Saturday, March 19, from 9-10:30 a.m. The pantry is located at 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan. Clients are asked to remain in their cars and food orders will be delivered to them. Additionally, clients are asked to wear masks, practice social distancing, and use proper hand hygiene while visiting the pantry. These measures will help to keep everyone safe as food is picked up. The pantry is a partner with Feeding America Southwest Virginia and distributes USDA food on the third Saturday of each month to clients.
