Murray Cider Company had been in the apple juice business since 1938. That is the same year the United States began commemorating Veterans Day as “Armistice Day.”
Walter Kent Murray Sr., Walter Kent Murray Jr., and Max A. Murray started the family business. They and their descendants took pride in the consistent quality of their pasteurized cider. It was well respected and sold in stores throughout Virginia and at their farm. Botetourt County Historical Society board member Anne Murray Reid donated this two-quart jug to the Botetourt Museum of History and Culture. Although Murray Cider Company is no longer in business, there are many stories and fond memories that go along with this Botetourt agricultural business. The 93 acres have been sold and will become a Traditional Neighborhood Development along Alt. 220, Cloverdale Road in Bonsack.
