As Thanksgiving approaches, the Botetourt Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone of the importance of staying safe while enjoying the holiday season. With increased travel, gatherings, and celebrations, we are committed to ensuring that everyone in our community enjoys a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
Sheriff Ward expressed the importance of community responsibility during this season. “Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, family, and togetherness. We encourage all residents to prioritize safety and make responsible choices, whether on the road, at home, or out in the community.”
The Sheriff’s Office offers the following Thanksgiving safety reminders:
- Drive Responsibly: Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year. Please avoid distractions, obey speed limits, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Buckle Up: Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly secured with a seatbelt, especially children and pets.
- Fire Safety: If you’re planning a Thanksgiving feast, please be mindful of fire hazards. Never leave stoves or ovens unattended and keep flammable materials away from heat sources.
- Be Neighborly: For those who may be spending the holiday alone or struggling during this season, check on your neighbors. A friendly gesture can make a world of difference.
- Report Suspicious Activity: We rely on our community to help keep Botetourt safe. If you notice any suspicious activity, please report it to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office will have extra patrols on duty throughout the holiday to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors.
The Botetourt Sheriff’s Office wishes everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
Buckle Up. Slow Down. Drive Sober.
