This is a large antique silver plate tray. Silver requires careful polishing and is easily damaged by salt and other chemicals. The copper under the silver is showing through in some places. The handles on each end allow the heavy tray to be lifted carefully. It was used by Catherine Stoner Peaslee and held an ornate tea service. Ed and Betty Holt donated it to the Botetourt Museum of History and Culture. History and cultures change, but this tray is a fond reminder of past family gatherings and entertaining in Botetourt County.
