On January 11, 2025, Dorothy “Dot” Johnson Simmons, 90, of Buchanan passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home.
Dot was born in Buchanan on September 1, 1934. She graduated from Buchanan High School and married her sweetheart, Sherman. She made her home in Buchanan and juggled being a homemaker and working in retail sales. Dot worked at the Dress House and Halmode Apparel, where she retired from. As she held other jobs, she was most accomplished by her role as a mother, wife, sister, daughter, grandmother and friend. Dot enjoyed the simple things in life, mostly being surrounded by family, traveling, especially the beach, shopping, cooking, spending time with her sisters, and following her grandchildren around to their activities. Dot was known for her witty personality and zest for life. She took pride in everything she touched and was a good friend to all. She added spice to everyone’s life. Her unconditional love, her sense of style and grace, her ability to comfort, her strong guidance, adventurous soul, her funny and good will made everyone that met her love her.
