After having two Blue Ridge District games postponed because of the cold last week the Lord Botetourt boys warmed up the gym with some hot shooting on Monday night. Botetourt beat visiting Glenvar, 72-46, for a non-district win.
LB won every quarter but this game was still close late into the first half. The Cavs went on a run and closed out the half with a 37-28 lead, then outscored Glenvar 21-8 in the third quarter to put it away.
“A great team win with a lot of players having great contributions,” said LB coach Josh Aliveto. “We were proud of how the team executed the game plan and played a complete 32 minutes. As a team we talk a lot about the impact of rebounding and turnovers; tonight was one of our better nights in both categories.”
Landon Hayes led the Cavaliers with 21 points and Blake Lovern had a solid night with 17 points and eight rebounds. Braydon Whorley had 13 points, Carson Edwards had half a dozen and a baker’s dozen rebounds to go with six assists, and Brady Kish did a great job of distributing the basketball and playing solid defense.
With the win the Cavaliers improved to 4-6 on the season and at press time they were yet to play a district game after games with Staunton River and William Byrd were postponed last week. LB was scheduled to play at William Fleming on Tuesday of this week, followed by a trip to Alleghany for a non-district game Friday. The Cavs are home next Tuesday, January 21, to host Franklin County.
