The Lord Botetourt wrestlers will be in Roanoke tonight for a quad match against host William Fleming, Albemarle and Franklin County. Coach Paul Craft plans to bring his whole team tonight after splitting up a large Cavalier team on occasion this season.

LB had a tri meet at home last week with Franklin County and Radford. Botetourt defeated Radford, 51-22, and Franklin County, 61-17. Cooper Roberts had a great match against a tough opponent from Franklin County.

“Cooper lost to that guy a few weeks ago by tech fall, but won by major decision on Wednesday night,” said Craft. “Almost all of our backup wrestlers received a match as well. We didn’t get out of the gym until 10 p.m.”

Last Saturday the Red Team (starters) were off with the exception of three guys. They travelled with the Gray Team (backups) to Parry McCluer for the Blues Quad. LB won 51-16 over Parry McCluer and 42-31 over Staunton and dropped the third match to Rockbridge, 48-27, to go 2-1 on the day.

Canden was one of the starters that traveled. He had a big win over a very good wrestler from Parry McCluer.

“Coach Brockenbrough at Parry McCluer runs a good program and we’re grateful he invited us up there,” said Craft. “The quad was run well and we’d love to send our guys back in the future. This was another great opportunity for our guys who don’t start to get mat time and continue to develop.”

This Saturday the LB Red Team will be at the Big Red Invitational at Riverheads High School in Staunton. The James River team will also be wrestling in this tournament

“This is a tough tournament and a great warmup for the postseason,” said Craft.
