The Blue Ridge District indoor track meet is scheduled for today at Roanoke College, but it was in jeopardy at press time due to the weather. If the meet can’t be run today, it will likely be cancelled.
The Lord Botetourt and James River teams ran in an East Coast Elite meet at Roanoke College last Saturday that included athletes from all over the East Coast. Lord Botetourt’s highest finish in the meet was an eighth place finish by Abigail Perkey in the shot put. Anna Moore was 14th in the 55 hurdles with a personal best of 11.22.
For the boys, Jayden Windson was ninth in the high jump with a personal best of 5’3”. The 4×200 relay team of Jayden Windsor, Bryce Nichols, Maddex Umber and Daniel Estep took ninth, beating their previous best time by four seconds.
James River had several athletes place. For the girls, Kaia Binns took second in the 55 dash and Navaeh Van Buren won the triple jump at 36’ ¾” and was second in the long jump at 16’ 7.5”. The girls 4×200 team of Binns, Van Buren, Raya Kitt and Denver Rinehart was seventh. Rinehart also took ninth in the 300 meters and Gretchen Huffman was ninth in the shot put.
For the boys, Gavin Binns was second in the 55 dash, eighth in the long jump and 12th in the 300. Jayden Alston took seventh in the shot put.
The region meets are next week at Roanoke College. The Region 2C meet, with James River, is Friday, February 21 and the Region 3D meet, with LB, will be a day later on Saturday, February 22.
