With a 20-3 regular season record the Lord Botetourt girls will get a bye when the Region 3D basketball tournament opens Friday. The girls won’t play until next Tuesday, February 25, against the winner of a first round game between the eight and nine seeded teams.

Botetourt wrapped up the regular season with two lop-sided wins the past week. Last Friday in Vinton the girls put the hammer down on host William Byrd, 71-16. Madilyn Winterton led the way with 27 points, five assists and seven steals. Maddie Caron had 24 points and seven boards and Maggie Hoover added 10 points and five assists. Botetourt shot 61 percent from the floor for the game and had 21 steals as a team.

On Monday it was “Senior Night” in Daleville and the Cavaliers came close to holding visiting Franklin County to single digits in points, winning 62-10. Senior Abby Kingery scored a career-high 22 points on nine-for-nine shooting and had seven rebounds. Senior Winterton had 17 points and six assists and Caron, also a senior, scored 13 points and had eight rebounds.

“It was a great night honoring three wonderful seniors who are leaders in our program,” said coach Renee Favaro. “All three are great players, but even better people.”
