

James River siblings Gavin and Kaia Binns both won 55-meter dash Region championships at the Region 2C meet in Salem. The Region meet was postponed from Friday of last week and rescheduled for Sunday at the Cregger Indoor Fieldhouse on the campus of Roanoke College.
In the girls 55-meter race, Kaia Binns won in 7.48 while her teammate, Denver Rinehart, finished third in 7.85. Just minutes later, the boys ran and Gavin Binns won the 55 meters in 6.58.
Rinehart and Kaia Binns also ran the 300 meters and Rinehart took third and Kaia was eighth. The 4×200 relay team of Rinehart, Binns, Rhaya Kitt and Jordyn Simmons was second with a time of 1:56.

Also for the girls, sophomore Gretchen Huffman won the shot put with a toss of 32’ 9” and Grace Walcott was seventh. Kitt and Simmons were eighth and ninth in the long jump and Simmons took sixth in the triple.
For the boys, Gavin Binns added a third in the long jump and a seventh in the 300 to complete his big day. Jayden Alston won the shot put with a heave of 47’8” and Braden Jones took sixth in the 1,000 meters and seventh in the 1,600.
The Floyd boys and Glenvar girls, both fellow Three Rivers District schools with River, won Region 2C championships. The state Class 1 and 2 meets will be held on March 5 and 6.
