
Lord Botetourt and James River sports teams are wrapping up their preseason practices and scrimmages this week with the start of regular season games, matches and meets officially beginning next Monday, March 17.
Today, March 12, the Lord Botetourt tennis team will scrimmage Alleghany at Hollins University. James River has a varsity softball scrimmage at Rockbridge and Rockbridge is here to take on the jayvees. Likewise, the River girls soccer team is at Appomattox for a scrimmage and the jayvees play in Springwood.
On Thursday the LB softball team will scrimmage Alleghany, with the jayvees at home and the varsity at Alleghany.
On Friday LB has soccer scrimmages with Spotswood in Daleville. The jayvees will play at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow. James River has a baseball scrimmage at Christiansburg, with the jayvees at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow. The Knights have a varsity soccer scrimmage in Bedford against Liberty with the jayvees at River.
Official action starts on Monday with a full slate of varsity events. The Lord Botetourt baseball team will host Pulaski County at 5:30 p.m. while the softball team is at Pulaski and the boys’ soccer team heads to Lynchburg for a match with Heritage.
James River teams also have a big opening day with the baseball and softball teams both hosting Parry McCluer for varsity games. The boys soccer team will host Floyd County at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday the Cavaliers host Blacksburg in softball while the baseball team is at Blacksburg. Blacksburg’s girls will play LB in tennis at Hollins and the Bruins will also be here to play LB in girls soccer. The River girls and boys have a soccer doubleheader at Auburn with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
Next Wednesday, March 19, the LB boys tennis team opens with a home match at Hollins against Rockbridge County.
