The Lord Botetourt softball team is 1-1 after the first week of the season. The girls defeated Blacksburg at home in their opener, 5-3, but lost to Hidden Valley in Roanoke County Thursday, 12-3.

Against Blacksburg, Autumn Russell was 2-for-3 and Maya Mougin drove in two runs. Seven different players had hits for LB while Phoenix Humphries and Olivia Pierce split time on the mound for the opening day win.

At Hidden Valley, Abby Perkey had a fourth inning home run and drove in three but it wasn’t enough in a loss to the Titans.

“This season is going to look completely different for us, but in a fantastic way,” said coach Megan Cook, who will miss some early games after having a baby. “While we did lose a good portion of our team last year, we have seen a large amount of talent and potential in our young players that have moved up and our senior leadership is phenomenal. We can’t wait to see what these girls are capable of.”

The Cavaliers are off this week for spring break, returning with a home game against Cave Spring next Monday and a return trip to Blacksburg on Tuesday.
