Spring break is over but Lord Botetourt and James River athletes got an extra day off when thunderstorms hit Botetourt County Monday afternoon. All LB and River sports scheduled for Monday were postponed.

Local teams hoped to return Tuesday with better weather in the forecast and there’s a full slate of games today, Wednesday, for Botetourt County teams including a big baseball game between LB and James River in Springwood. James River softball is headed to Northside today.

LB will host Christiansburg in boys soccer tonight and the girls are at Christiansburg in their first matches back from break. The LB boys tennis team is at Magna Vista.

On Thursday the new James River girls tennis team is scheduled to play at Floyd. The girls opened their season on March 20 with a 7-2 loss to Bath County.

“It went very well being it was the first time ever,” said River coach Brian White. “It’s very exciting. I have nine girls on the team.”

The team includes Payton White, Kyra Taylor, Leanna Steger, Grace Matre, Lilly Falls, Caroline Church, Regan Childs, Maggie Brewster and Addison Bandy. There are no courts at James River High so most of the matches will be away.

“We do have a couple at Hollins College in May,” said White.

On Friday Lord Botetourt teams will take on Salem in five different sports. The girls soccer and boys tennis teams will be home, while the baseball, girls tennis and boys soccer teams all play in Salem. River will be home to Floyd in baseball and softball and on Saturday the track season opens for both schools with James River heading to Blacksburg and Lord Botetourt competing at E.C. Glass High in Lynchburg.
