Lord Botetourt High will host the Cavaliers’ first track meet of the spring season today with a 4:30 p.m. meet in Daleville. A variety of schools will be attending, including James River.
River opened the season last Saturday when the Knights competed in the Blacksburg Invitational at Blacksburg High School. The meet included 14 high school teams.
For the River girls, Kaia Binns was third in the 100 and state qualified while Denver Rinehart state qualified in both the 100 and 200 meters. Rinehart, Binns, Rhaya Kitt and Samaya Osborne finished third in the 4×100 relay.
The girls also participated in the 4×100 “Throwers Relay.” Chase Clemons, Grace Walcott, Janiya Falls and Osborne finished third.
For the boys, Gavin Binns won the 100 and state qualified in that event. Gavin also was sixth in the 200 and ran on the fifth place 4×100 relay with Ryder Ward, Xander Carlough and Nate Stewart.
Jayden Alston was fourth in the shot and fifth in the discus and state qualified in both.
After today’s meet at LB, both River and Lord Botetourt will compete in Vinton this Saturday in a meet at William Byrd High School. It’s scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
