The Lord Botetourt boys scored five first half goals on their way to an 8-1 soccer win over Abingdon in Daleville Monday. With the win the Cavaliers improved to 3-2 on the season.

Isaiah Lankford hit the net twice for LB in the first half and also scoring were Robbie Sanchez, Dean Webb and Kalob Daniels. Lankford completed a hat trick with his third goal after intermission, Sanchez scored his second of the night and Mateo Oviedo added the final goal for the Cavs.

JB Cook was in the cage for the first half against Abingdon while Garrett Honts played the second half. Abingdon scored in the second half to deny the Cavs a shutout.

The loss snapped a two-game losing streak for LB. Last week the Cavs lost at home to Christiansburg, 3-0, then dropped a 2-1 overtime game to the Spartans in Salem on Friday.

LB took the lead in the first half at Salem when Josh Dickerson had a deep throw-in the Jeremy Simmons headed past the keeper. Salem scored midway through the second half to send it to overtime, then scored their game winner in the first five minute period of OT.

The Cavs will host Staunton River in a Blue Ridge District game Friday while the LB girls are in Moneta to play the Eagles, hoping to break a three-game losing streak. Last week the girls lost at Blacksburg, 3-0, at Christiansburg, 3-0, and at home to Salem, 4-1. Bria Harvey scored the goal against Salem with an assist from Cailey Petrauskas. The girls fell to 1-4 with the loss.
