The Lord Botetourt boys soccer team will host Salem in a non-district game on Thursday night. It’s one of three games for the Cavaliers this week, as they were scheduled to host Northside on Tuesday and will play at Franklin County on Friday in Blue Ridge District tilts.
The Cavaliers are 3-4 overall after dropping their first two district games of the season last week. On Tuesday they dropped a 2-1 match to William Byrd on the Highfill Field pitch in Vinton. Byrd led 2-0 at the half but Robbie Sanchez scored off a penalty kick with 16 minutes left in the second half to give LB life. William Byrd finished the game strong to secure the win.
On Thursday the Cavaliers hosted William Fleming and dropped a 3-1 decision.
“Fleming came out swinging with two beautiful back door runs to give them a 2-0 lead going into halftime,” said LB coach Taylor Leonard. “But we did not back down.”
Around 10 minutes into the second half, Josh Dickerson threw the ball into the box to connect with Jeremy Simmons. Simmons drove a header into the back of the net to cut into Fleming’s lead.
Fleming then put it away with a penalty kick. JB Cook had the initial save but Fleming scored off the rebound for an insurance goal and a 3-1 win.
