The Lord Botetourt girls softball team will host James River in an intra-county rivalry game next Monday, April 28. The game will be played under the lights at 7 p.m. with a junior varsity game between LB and River at 5:30 p.m.
The Cavaliers were involved in three slaughter-rule games last week, two of which they won. Last Tuesday in Vinton the Cavs lit up the William Byrd scoreboard in a 19-7 win. The Cavaliers had home runs by Callie Kidd, Gracelynn Clark and Olivia Pierce in the win while Kidd, Pierce, Autumn Russell and Abby Perkey had three hits each. Pierce pitched a full game and took home the win in the circle.
A day later in Daleville the Cavs were on the other end of the score in an 11-0 loss to Pulaski County. Russell, Maya Mougin, Callie Shuler and Phoenix Humphries each had one hit as the offense struggled.
“Defensively, that was, unfortunately, our worst game yet and we just could not get the bats going,” said coach Megan Cook.
Last Thursday at home the Cavs turned it around with a 12-0 shutout of William Fleming. The Cavs needed just seven hits to score a dozen runs as Riley Morgan got the win in the circle.
With the win LB improved to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in Blue Ridge District games. The girls were scheduled to host Northside on Tuesday, followed by a trip to Rocky Mount to take on Franklin County this Friday.
