On May 3, history will come alive at the Early Cabin in Fincastle (corner of Water Street and Murray Street) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Step-Back-Into-History – A Day at the Early Cabin is sponsored by Historic Fincastle Inc. (HFI).

The cabin will be open for touring to see how a typical family of the 18th century would live. In the yard, the Fincastle Company will have an encampment set up to see how the “soldiers” would have survived during the Revolutionary War. Visitors will have an opportunity to try on clothing of this era for picture opts.

There will be letter writing, homemade single serving of ice cream making (and eating). The highlight of the outdoor activities will be the hearing of the reading of the Botetourt Resolutions from the steps of the cabin and a visit from John Adams’s wife, Abigail.

Inside of the cabin, take of “tour” of Botetourt County through the years with Mike Lee and his postcard collection.  See Botetourt County as it was in the late 19th century and the 20th century.

HFI will have corn dogs for sale as well as a bake sale of home goodies for sale.

All acoustic musicians are welcome to come and play in the yard any time during the day to add to the festivities. Come and share your talent with the community.

This event promises to be full of fun and learning opportunities for students and families.  It is a fair-weather event and will be cancelled if it is raining. Check the Historic Fincastle Inc. Facebook page to check on the status for the day.
