Two former Botetourt County basketball standouts will be teammates during the next basketball season as Ryan Steger has committed to Emory & Henry University to join Jackson Crawford.
This will be the third school for Steger, who played his freshman year at Bridgewater College after a standout career at James River High School. Steger transferred to Greensboro College last year and, after two seasons in Division III, decided to commit to Division II Emory & Henry.
Crawford, a Lord Botetourt graduate, will be a junior for the Wasps next year. Jackson was recently named Emory & Henry’s “Breakout Player of the Year” at the Wasps basketball banquet. Crawford averaged 11.9 points per game and 3.7 assists per game for E&H last season.
Crawford and Steger were teammates on the GATA Academy (Get After Today Always) AAU basketball team that won the National Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in the summer of 2022. Jackson was the point guard and Steger was the shooting guard on the GATA team.
