Ethan Steryous, who just completed his freshman year at Lord Botetourt High School, made it all the way to the state semifinals in tennis before he was eliminated from the tournament.
Liberty University was the site of the Virginia High School League Class 3 tournaments and Steryous, the Region 3D champion, drew Thomas Lapp of Meridian in the opening round last Friday. Lapp took the first set, 7-5, but Ethan bounced back to win the second, 6-3, to tie the match. Lapp then won the third set 1-0 (10) to advance to the championship, where he lost to Brader Eby of Western Albemarle, 6-0, 6-0.
