Dew, David Hendon

David (Dave) Herndon Dew, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Eagle Rock on July 21, 2025.

Born on October 21, 1937, in Clarksburg, W.Va., and raised in Roanoke, where he graduated from Jefferson High School. After high school, Dave proudly served 12 years in the U.S. Navy reserves.

Dave’s Masonic service was his passion, he was a 33° Scottish Rite Mason and served as General Secretary for 14 years. He was also a proud Shriner, Past District Deputy Grand Master, and Past Master of Lodge #166 in Clifton Forge, where he was a 50-year member. He was committed to helping children and families, providing transportation to the Shriners Children’s Hospital and supporting speech and language therapy through the Scottish Rite’s RiteCare program at Radford University.

Preceding him in death, his parents, Margaret Herndon and Ralph William Dew; sister, Beverly Munsey; brothe,r Roderick (Corky) Dew; and nephew, Eugene Roderick Dew.

Cherishing his beloved memory are his wife of nearly 61 years, Jean West Dew; son, David Herndon Dew II (Ronda); daughter, Robin Annette Fescina (Michael); and grandchildren, Eric Dew, Emily Dew, Erika Fescina, Evan Dew (Jamie), Elizabeth Dew, Lauren Fescina and Michael Fescina; and great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Everett Dew. Dave is also survived by niece, Janice Bondurant (David); nephew, James Munsey (Sue); as well as a cherished aunt-in-law, Mary Frances West, and many other beloved friends and family members.

Dave’s career spanned over four decades working as City Manager of Clifton Forge, Management Analyst for the City of Roanoke and ending as Covington City Manager. During retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his garden, playing Cribbage with his grandchildren, and taking care of his pets.

A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on August 10, 2025, at the Scottish Rite Building, 622 Campbell Avenue, Roanoke, followed by a Service of Remembrance at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to the Scottish Rite RiteCare Clinic or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
