Sheriff’s Office hosts Senior Social to promoting safety, wellness, and community connection

The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with local community business partners and other local organizations, successfully hosted another well-attended Senior Social event on July 25 at Fincastle Baptist Church. With over 200 seniors from across the community in attendance, the event once again highlighted the importance of outreach, education, and fellowship for the senior community.

The gathering provided attendees with valuable resources aimed at promoting safety, wellness, and fraud prevention among seniors. Vendors offering a variety of services tailored to senior needs were on hand to share information, answer questions, and provide support.

This month’s featured guest speaker was Jay Kilby with ReMax Realtors, who delivered a presentation that touched on real estate considerations for seniors, downsizing tips, and how to navigate today’s housing market with confidence and security.

Sheriff Matt Ward expressed gratitude for the strong turnout and community support. “These events not only strengthen relationships, but they are about giving our seniors the tools they need to thrive safely and confidently. Our goal is to empower seniors to maintain their independence by connecting them with essential services, trusted resources, and a strong support network within the community,” Ward said.

The Senior Social events continue to be a cornerstone in the Sheriff’s Office community outreach Senior Focus Program and the commitment to protecting and engaging with Botetourt’s senior population. Plans are already underway for the next gathering, and all Botetourt County seniors are encouraged to attend future events.

For more information about upcoming Senior Socials or senior safety initiatives, contact Andrea Mundy at the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office at 540-928-2233 or amundy@botetourtva.gov.
