Two former Lord Botetourt High football players are in the news this week.
Troy Everett, a red-shirt senior offensive lineman at Oklahoma University, has been named captain for the 2025 season. After starting his collegiate career at Appalachian State, Troy transferred to Oklahoma for the 2023 season. Last fall he started each of the last seven games at center after missing five games with an injury.
“Who would have thought someone from Lord Botetourt would be a captain at Oklahoma,” said LB coach Jamie Harless. “That says a lot when someone is named a team captain. That’s quite an honor.”
Zach Horton, who was a teammate of Everett’s with the Cavaliers during his high school days, is trying to make the team with the NFL Detroit Lions. Horton is a tight end/fullback who played for Indiana University last year after transferring from James Madison University.
Zach signed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent and made his professional debut last Thursday when the Lions played the Los Angeles Chargers in the annual Hall of Fame exhibition game in Canton, Ohio.
