1757: The Botetourt Frontier and the Capture of Hannah Dennis

In 1757, Shawnee warriors attacked settler families near present-day Buchanan, taking Hannah Dennis and others captive. Learn about Hannah’s capture and daring escape from local historian Ed McCoy.

Fincastle’s Bluegrass Roots

Fincastle held the nation’s first multi-day bluegrass festival in 1965. Celebrate Fincastle’s bluegrass legacy with Appalachian music, folktales, and history.

  • 10:00 AM: Storyteller Clint Atwater will share Jack Tales and stories from Appalachia. Great for all ages.
  • 11:00 AM: performance by Roanoke Valley Dulcimers. Great for all ages.
  • 12:30 PM: Josh Urban will present on the history of Bluegrass and Appalachian music.Best for adults.
