New 9-1-1 communications facility groundbreaking August 28

Botetourt County recently announced a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on a major public safety infrastructure project. The public is invited to attend the August 28 event, which will celebrate the start of construction on a new Emergency Communications Center (ECC), a dedicated radio communications shop, and the expansion of an existing Fire & EMS station.

Following years of planning and development, including working towards the purchase of a new emergency communications radio system in 2024, county leaders determined that the existing 9-1-1 dispatch center in Fincastle no longer meets the operational, technological, or spatial needs of the community. The new facility will provide the critical infrastructure necessary to support emergency communications well into the future.

This project is the result of a collaborative effort between Botetourt County, the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office, the Emergency Communications Systems Manager, and Fire & EMS. At its July meeting, the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors awarded the construction contract to MB Contractors to bring this project to life.

When complete, the upgraded facility will house a state-of-the-art emergency communications center, a standalone radio shop, and additional living and operational space for fire and EMS personnel.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Details:

Location: 43 East Park Drive, Roanoke

Date: Thursday, August 28

Time: 10 a.m.

Parking: Orchard Hills Church, 6032 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke
