The James River golfers took their turn at hosting a Three Rivers District match last Thursday and finished fourth. Floyd County continued to dominate the district with a convincing win.
Floyd finished the day at 285 to win the round by 32 strokes over second place Carroll County, who carded a decent 317. Glenvar was next at 329 and River shot 332, seven strokes better than Radford. Patrick County finished at 342 and Martinsville brought up the rear with a 477.
The victorious Buffaloes had the best two scores of the day, as Peyton Mason shot six under 65 for medalist and teammate Isaiah Cantrell was second at 68. Landon Bolling had River’s low score with a one over 72 followed by Mason Gilliland at 74. Braden Persinger and Elizabeth Johnson both shot 93 to round out River’s scoring. That was a personal best for Elizabeth in match play.
The Knights were scheduled to host Lord Botetourt and William Byrd on Tuesday of this week but results were too late for publication. Next Monday River will play in a district match at the River Course.
