Lord Botetourt hosted the first Blue Ridge District “mini-match” of the high school golf season last week and the Cavaliers finished second among five teams that competed. LB’s Alisa Davidova was the medalist.

Franklin County had the low score of the day with a 309. Botetourt was six strokes back at 315, followed by William Byrd at 320, Northside at 342 and Staunton River at 394. William Fleming did not field a team.

Davidova tore up LB’s home course with a six-under-par 65 to win the round. She finished seven strokes better than Byrd’s Tyler Chambers and Franklin County’s Nick Messenger, who both shot one over 72.

The second best score for Lord Botetourt was a 77 by senior Garrett Honts. Also scoring for the Cavs were Cole Cecil at 86 and Derek Bond at 87. Playing, but not shooting counting scores, were Kennedy Carpenter with an 89 and Jackson Taylor at 91.

“We definitely played better last week, but there is still lots of room for improvement,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “The more experience we get, the better off we will be.”

Botetourt also played a non-district match at the Waterfront course at Smith Mountain Lake last week against Salem, Patrick Henry and host Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy. Botetourt shot a 316 to win the day, followed by Salem at 327, PH at 332 and the host Ospreys at 343.

Davidova was medalist again with a 66 on a tough course. Also scoring were Honts at 78, Cecil at 83 and Bond at 89.

The Blue Ridge tour was scheduled to pass through Ole Monterey on Tuesday of this week with Fleming as host, but that was cancelled since the Colonels aren’t fielding a team. Instead, LB, James River and William Byrd got up a match at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club.

Next Tuesday, August 26, Franklin County will host a BRD mini-match at Copper Cove.
