Camper, Shirley Finch

Shirley Marie Finch Camper, 88, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 59 years, Robert Bruce Camper; parents, Hayden Boston Finch and Annie Marie Craft Finch; granddaughter, Jessica Renae Noel; great-grandson, Luka James Flint; and brother, Hayden Wayne Finch.

Shirley retired from James River High School as the cafeteria manager. She also enjoyed being a prominent member of the Red Hat Society. She was a lifelong member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church and was famous for her homemade rolls.

Shirley was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for her family and sewing.

Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her children, Roderick Bruce Camper (Christine), Debra Camper Noel (Melvin), Vonda Sue Camper, Sandra Lynn Camper, and Brian Joseph Camper; grandchildren, Melissa Noel Flint (James), Rebecca Noel Kovacevic (Arnes), Bradley Noel (Rachel), Zachary Noel, Chelsea Camper Ashe (John), Jeffrey Camper, Jamey Camper (Valencia); great-grandchildren, Camdyn and Bailee Flint, Ayden, Layla, and Zayn Kovacevic; and sister, Delores Finch Smith.

The family would like to give special thanks to Becky Yopp and Gentiva Hospice for taking special care of Shirley.
A Celebration of Shirley’s Life was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2025, in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Morris A. Bennett officiating. The family received friends an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the cemetery fund of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church.
