HokieBird: Lessons from a Mascot

Former Virginia Tech HokieBird, Amy Wells discusses her book “Pursuit – Learning Important Life Lessons as a Mascot,” answers her most frequently asked questions, and shares stories of her experiences as the mascot, and how those experiences became formative life lessons for her. Ideal for adults.

Learn about emergency alerts, evacuation plans, and how to create a comprehensive emergency kit tailored to your specific needs. Presented by Virginia Regional Preparedness. Best for ages 13+.

 

Touch a Fire Truck

See a real fire truck up close and meet the people who save lives in the community. Presented by Botetourt County Fire & EMS. Best for ages 10+.

 

Stargazing

Sat, Sep 27, 11am-12pm, Buchanan

Learn how to see the night sky from a new perspective. Presented by Mark England of the Roanoke Astronomy Club. Ideal for all ages.

 

Ag Day at Eagle Rock

Sat, Sep 27, 9am-2pm

Everyone is welcome! Celebrate local agriculture with activities for the entire family! Meet animals from Jeffry’s Funny Farm and chat with representatives from 4-H, the Ag Extension Office, Douthat State Park, and more. Try your hand at a STEM activity with Beth Leffel (Eagle Rock Ruritans) and other fun activities.  Ideal for all ages.

Special presentations include:

10am: Soil Composting & Testing (Tim Miller) no registration

11am – Beekeeping & Bee Products (Julie Baker) no registration

12pm-2pm – DIY Birdhouse Workshop – JRHS FFA, all materials provided,

Painting Workshop: Bovine Brush & Paint
