The James River girls will try to even the score with the Bobcats Thursday when the Knights head to Radford for a Three Rivers District volleyball match.
The Bobcats won the first meeting between the two in Springwood in four sets. That’s one of just two losses in the district for the Knights, who beat Floyd County and Patrick County in Three Rivers District matches last week. River won at Floyd in three, 25-7, 25-12 and 25-20, then pulled out a five-set marathon in Springwood Thursday, 24-11, 17-25, 20-25, 25-21 and 18-16 in extra points in the deciding set to 15.
River comes into the match at 11-5 overall after going 2-3 in their home event last Saturday. The Knights played five best-of-three matches and beat Heritage and Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy in two sets each. They lost three matches, all in three sets, to Bath County, Alleghany and Franklin County. The Bath and Franklin County matches were decided by 15-13 scores in the third and deciding set.
River was scheduled to host Carroll County on Tuesday of this week but results were too late for publication. Next week they have two home matches, Martinsville on Tuesday and a big one with Glenvar on Thursday, Oct. 9.
