LB and Staunton River volleyball teams pose for a group shot on “Spike Out Kids Cancer” night at Lord Botetourt High School last week.
Folks participate in a serving contest to raise money to fight cancer.

The Lord Botetourt volleyball team will host three teams Saturday in a day of high school action in Daleville. Magna Vista, Abingdon and Christiansburg will be here for varsity and jayvee matches.

Action begins at 8:30 a.m. when LB meets Christiansburg. Magna Vista will meet Abingdon at 9:30 a.m. followed by Botetourt and Abingdon at 10:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m. Christiansburg will play Magna Vista, then Christiansburg will play Abingdon at 12:30 p.m. The day wraps up with the Cavaliers and Magna Vista at 1:30 p.m. There will also be jayvee games in the auxiliary gym.

It should be an exciting day of volleyball. Christiansburg is one of the top teams in the state, at any level, and the Blue Demons are in Region 3D with the other three schools so it will be a post-season preview.

The Cavaliers took a 4-4 overall record and a 1-1 Blue Ridge District record into a busy week. They were in Vinton Tuesday to meet William Byrd and on Thursday LB will host William Fleming.

Last Thursday in Daleville the Cavaliers hosted Staunton River in a special night to benefit “Spike Out Kids Cancer.” The event rained $8,733.42 for the Life Ring Foundation and the family of Dalton Close, who is battling the disease.

“We are all so thankful that we were able to do this for such a great cause,” said LB coach Samantha Wilkins. “We want to thank the community for helping us make this such a successful event that we hope to continue for years to come.”

The Cavaliers also won the match in three sets, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-10. Gracelyn Clark led LB with nine kills, five aces and a couple blocks. Ava Stephens had seven kills and three blocks and Addalyn Underwood had a dozen digs and half a dozen aces.
