The James River cross country team ran in Dublin last Saturday in the Cougar Clash at Randolph Park, hosted by Pulaski County High School.
The Glenvar boys and Christiansburg girls won team titles while River’s boys were sixth among a dozen teams and the girls were fifth among eight.
“We had some strong races,” said coach Daphne Davidson. “Our boys’ team is getting stronger with our third, fourth and fifth places. They are consistently working toward closing the gaps, allowing us to move up as a team.”
Braden Jones led River with a sixth place finish in 18 minutes while Mark Voight was 15. Also scoring were Charles Stull, Barrett Pace and Nolan Linthicum.
Maddie Davidson was eighth overall to lead the girls in 21:51. Also scoring were Maren Pauley, Alexandra Bona, Holly Weddle and Daniella Murray. Janiya Falls had a strong race and got a season personal record.
Lord Botetourt was off last week but will have a big one this weekend. The Cavaliers will run in the Virginia Showcase meet in Mechanicsville.
“It will be the most competitive meet of the regular, pre-championship season,” said LB coach Noel Preece.
