James River runners Maddie Davidson, Braden Jones and Mark Voight competed in the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship cross country meet at Green Hill Park in Roanoke County last Saturday.
Davidson, a freshman, finished 17th among 122 runners with a time of 21:03. The winning time in the Class 2 state meet was 18:40 by Elizabeth Trant of Poquoson.
In the boys’ meet Jones, a junior, was 21st among 130 runners with a time of 17:22. Teammate Voight, also a junior, was 52nd in 18:23. The winning time was 15:45 by junior Bradley Hamilton of Nottoway.
“They ran hard, I was very proud,” said River coach Daphne Davidson of the three Knight runners. “They left it all out on the course. It was a nice ending to a great season.”
Three Rivers District rivals swept the team state championships as Floyd County won the girls’ title and Glenvar took the boys’ crown.
