The Virginia High School League Class 3 All-State football team was released just prior to Christmas and Lord Botetourt was well-represented. The Cavaliers had four boys make the team and filled three spots on the first team.

LB junior Quinten Jones was named first team on both sides of the ball. He was selected at running back on offense and all-purpose on defense. Senior Angel Rigney, LB’s quarterback, was a first team selection on offense as all-purpose.

Two Cavaliers were also named to the second team. Senior Taygen Sanchez-Huerta was chosen on the offensive line and senior Eric Irons is a second team selection at defensive back.

Lake Taylor High senior running back Keon Johnson is the Class 3 Offensive Player of the Year, and Lake Taylor senior linebacker Devaughn Powell is the Class 3 Defensive Player of the Year. Lake Taylor head coach Hank Sawyer is the Class 3 Coach of the Year after leading the Titans to a double overtime win over Kettle Run in the Class 3 state championship game.

In Region 3D, Botetourt’s Jones, Rigney, and Sanchez-Huerta all made the first team offense while Jones, Irons, Tyler Butler, and Aaden Thomas all were first team defense, Butler on the line and Thomas at linebacker. In addition, Jones was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Second team All-Region honors on offense include Butler on the offensive line and Irons at receiver.

In the Blue Ridge District, Jones, Rigney, Sanchez-Huerta, and Irons all made first team offense while Butler, Thomas, Jones, and Irons were first team on defense. Butler is second team on offense.

In addition, Jones was named both Co-Most Valuable Offensive Back and Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Sanchez-Huerta was named BRD Most Valuable Offensive Lineman.
