Anita Aaron, past president of the Botetourt County Rotary Club and current Area 6 Governor, was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow recognition pin at the club’s January meeting. This award acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have had contributions made in their name, of $1,000 or more to the Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of Rotary. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.
Many other notable figures have been named Paul Harris Fellows, including U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, U.S. astronaut James Lovell, UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, and polio vaccine developer Jonas Salk. The number of Paul Harris Fellows reached the 1 million mark in 2006.
The Botetourt County Rotary Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Fincastle Library at 11 Academy Street. Meetings typically start at noon and last approximately one hour. Later each month, members hold an after-hours social at various restaurants in Botetourt County. Come visit one of our meetings to see firsthand what we are all about.
