The James River swimmers have a meet at the Botetourt YMCA tonight and Lord Botetourt will be at the Gator Center in Roanoke Friday for high school meets. Thursday is “Senior Night” for James River and the Knights will recognize Kingston Bean before the meet at the Y on Thursday at 6:40 p.m.
Both teams will swim at the Botetourt Y next Thursday, Jan. 29, in the annual “Swim for the Cure” event. James River is hosting Glenvar, Radford and LB and the Knights will be wearing pink caps donated by Chad Bean. The team will recognize survivors and those affected by cancer and all schools will be encouraging students and staff to wear pink.
LB had a meet at Christiansburg on Tuesday but results were too late for publication. The Cavaliers were off last week.
James River was at the Salem YMCA last Tuesday, Jan. 13, to swim against Giles, Radford, Liberty, Tazewell and host Glenvar. The River boys lost to Glenvar but outscored the other four schools while the girls beat Giles, Liberty and Tazewell but lost to Glenvar and Radford. The girls made a second state cut time in the 200 free relay and now all the girls on the team are headed to states.
“I am so proud of the work they are doing, and we are continuing to drop times,” said River coach Kitt Williams.
River’s Riley Persinger was first in the girls’ 100 free and second in the 100 back. Kim Van Auken was first in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Sarah Lorman was second in the 50 free and the 100 free while Lydia Jones was fourth in the 50 free and 100 backstroke. Riley, Sarah, Kim and Lydia placed first in both the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.
The River boys placed first in the 200 free relay and second in the medley relay. Austin Myers was first in the 200 free and second in the 100 backstroke and Kingston Bean was fourth in the 100 free. Harrison Hanna was third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 free.
