Marshall Wayne Layman, 78, of Buchanan, went home to be with our Lord Wednesday, March 11, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodie Earl and Rebecca Virginia Layman; sister, Pat L. Turner; and brother, Joe Layman.
He is survived by his son, Jerry Wayne Layman; sister, Carolyn L. Hambrick; sister-in-law, Nancy Layman; and many nieces and nephews.
Marshall was a graduate of James River High School. He served in the United States Army. He retired after many years of long-distance truck driving for Yellow Freight. He loved hunting and fishing, and he was a staple at the round table at Solomon’s Mission. He will be dearly missed by family and friends, especially Haywood Jackson, who has been his long-time friend.
There was a viewing and time of visitation at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Botetourt Funeral Home, Buchanan Chapel. Graveside services were held at 12 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery on Fairview Street, Buchanan with Teresa Rothwell officiating. There was a dinner following the service at Solomon’s Mission.
