The Lord Botetourt boys had a win and a tie in soccer last week while the girls dropped two matches. Both teams will play William Byrd on Friday with the boys at home and the girls in Vinton.

The boys tied Graham in Bluefield, 1-1, then defeated Franklin County at home on Friday, 2-1, to improve to 1-2-1 on the season. Sophomore Jackson Taylor scored his first varsity goal in the Graham match to earn the Cavs a draw.

On Friday the Cavaliers won their Blue Ridge District opener over Franklin County. Senior midfielder Christian Rakes delivered the game-winning goal in the final three minutes of play, securing a hard-fought result. Taylor added his second goal of the week, finishing a counter attacking sequence off a long penetrating pass from winger Braylen Wolford. The team also nearly doubled its shots on goal compared to previous matches.

The girls dropped two games on the road, 5-2 at Blacksburg and 5-1 at Franklin County. They’re now 2-3.

Both teams were scheduled to play Staunton River on Tuesday but results were too late for publication.
