Lord Botetourt High recently named a new head football coach. Now, the Cavaliers are also looking for a head basketball coach.
Josh Aliveto has stepped down after two years as head coach of the boys’ team. He cited a need for spending more time with family as his reason for leaving the team and informed the School Board last week of his decision. The Cavaliers were 18-30 in the two years Josh was head coach, and they always played hard to the end.
It will be strange for Josh to not be involved in sports in Daleville during the next school year. A 1999 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, he was the quarterback of the LB football team as a student and also a standout in basketball and baseball. After spending a year out of state in 2015 he returned to Botetourt County and has been a football and baseball assistant, a head coach for both basketball and girls’ tennis and also took a turn with the middle school track team.
“It will be different but at this time I feel like it’s something I have to do,” he said. “I wouldn’t rule out coaching again if the timing is right.”
Josh has a 14-year-old son who is an eighth grader at Read Mountain who plays football, baseball and basketball. His daughter is a student at Cloverdale Elementary and she’s involved in basketball, softball and cheerleading.
“I’ll be spending more time with the family,” he said.
