Rhyann Jones, a senior on the UNC-Greensboro softball team and a Lord Botetourt High School graduate, has been named to the All-Southern Conference second team as a pitcher. The Spartans dominated the All-SoCon team as they prepare to open play in the NCAA tournament Friday.

UNCG Head Coach Janelle Breneman was tabbed SoCon Coach of the Year, Brooklyn Shroyer was named SoCon Pitcher of the Year and Avery Bouquin was selected as the SoCon Freshman of the Year.  Shroyer, Macy Michael and Kaylyn Belfield were named to the All-SoCon First Team, while Jones, Bouquin,  Laney Deane, Rylie Williams and Nya South were selected to the All-SoCon Second Team.

Jones had a terrific regular season for the Spartans. Her 2.34 earned run average was second best in the SoCon and she had a WHIP of 1.12 while leading the conference in fewest walks allowed with an average of 1.56 per game. She was second on the team with 46 total strikeouts this season.

The UNCG team will begin its quest in the 2026 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament in the Athens Regional against sixth ranked Clemson on Friday, May 15, at 4:30 p.m. at Jack Turner Softball Stadium on the University of Georgia campus. Joining the Spartans and Tigers will be the host Georgia Bulldogs and the College of Charleston Cougars.

The Spartans earned the Southern Conference’s (SoCon) automatic bid after defeating the second-seeded Samford Bulldogs, 4-0, in the championship game last Sunday at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn. The winner of the Athens Regional will advance to a best-of-three NCAA Super Regionals against the winner of the Knoxville Regional between May 21-24. The Women’s College World Series will be played in Oklahoma City, Okla., at Devon Park from May 28 to June 4-5.
