The Lord Botetourt and James River track teams warmed up for post-season competition at the “Golden Eagle Invitational” at Staunton River High School last Saturday. Close to 20 teams competed in the meet.

The Blue Ridge District meet is also at Staunton River High and it’s scheduled for today, so the Cavaliers only sent some of their younger athletes to last Saturday’s meet. Natalie Mullins was eighth in the pole vault, Lucas Carswell was eighth in the 1600 and Joel Butler took ninth in the pole vault.

For James River, Maddie Davidson was fourth in the 800, Samaya Osborne was fifth in the shot put and Denver Rinehart took sixth in the 200.

For the boys, River took one-two in the discus with Jack Beheler first and Ashton Orange second, and Ashton was also sixth in the shot put. Ryder Ward was third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.

The Three Rivers District does not have a district meet, with the Region 2C meet scheduled for May 29 at Radford High School. Radford also hosted a meet for district schools last week and River had some strong performances. Kendall Childs won the triple jump for the girls and the boys had three first places, Ward in the triple, Orange in the shot and Beheler in the discus.
