Cavaliers playing in the Blue Ridge District baseball tournament

Emery Lonker of LB rips a hit in last week’s game in Salem.

The Lord Botetourt baseball team was headed to Franklin County as the paper went to press Tuesday to play Franklin County in the Blue Ridge District tournament semifinal. The winner will take on the winner of a game between William Byrd and Northside on Friday at Northside High for the district tournament championship.

While Botetourt would love to win the district, the Region 3D tournament is the one that really counts and the Cavaliers were on the bubble of making the field at press time. The top eight in the region qualify and LB was sitting at number eight with several teams still having games to play this week. The Blue Ridge tournament games do not count for Region seeding.

Botetourt had three games last week and went 1-2. They beat William Fleming in Roanoke, 15-0, as Jaidan Pennix went four-for-four at the plate. Five different pitchers went one inning with Garrett Lonker picking up the win.

A day later LB played a makeup game against Salem at Billy Sample Field and lost 11-6 in a game that was shortened to six innings by lightning. Lonker took the loss in this one, pitching three and two-thirds innings. Pennix had a home run and two RBIs while Garrett and Emery Lonker had two hits each.

On Friday the Cavs finished the regular season with a 5-1 loss to the host Vikings at Northside. Jackson Crenshaw pitched three innings and took the loss despite allowing just one earned run. LB had six hits, two by Chase Peck.

The Cavaliers ended the regular season with an 11-10 record.
