The Botetourt 10U girls are champions of the Roanoke Area Youth Softball Associastion (RAYSA) once again. The Botetourt girls went undefeated in last week’s tournament to win the crown for the second year in a row.

After opening the tournament with an 11-3 win over South County at the James I. Moyer Complex in Salem the girls coasted through the winners’ bracket in Salem with a 14-2 win over Vinton and an 8-0 shutout of Salem. The championship game was at Darrell Shell Park in Roanoke County and Botetourt beat Glenvar, 12-2, to clinch the title. JOBEK Land Services and Kidd’s Wild Game Processing sponsored the Botetourt “Hit Squad.”

The Botetourt 13U team also competed and edged Franklin County, 9-8 in their opener. Botetourt then lost a close one to South County, 7-6, and were eliminated by Clifton Forge in the losers’ bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

This week the boys are playing at the Botetourt Sports Complex. Double elimination tournaments for Roanoke Area Youth Baseball Association (RAYBA) 10U and 12U teams began Monday with the 10U championship scheduled for tonight and the 12U on Thursday. Check next week’s sports section for winners.
