The Reverend Ronald W. Young Sr. went home to be with the Lord from his residence on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. He was born in Roanoke on June 7, 1934, to Ivan R. and Lera Lancaster Young.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Sue Brammer Young; his four children, Rhonda Young, Renee Griffin (Danny), the Rev. Ron Young Jr. (Kathy), and Robert Young; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Signe Marechal (Doug); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Lera Young, and his brother, Bev Young.
Ronald was the founding Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Fincastle and First Baptist Church of New Castle. He retired as Pastor of Plantation Road Baptist Church in Roanoke in 2000.
As an avid reader, he pursued history, especially church history, researching family ancestry, and “poking” around old cemeteries. Ronald loved to teach, preach and discuss the Word of God to the Glory of Jesus Christ.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Oakey’s North Chapel. His funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 26, at Plantation Road Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
