Engines will roar once again at The River Farm on Saturday, Aug. 1, as Jeter Farm hosts its annual Truck and Tractor Pull, marking the ninth year of the summer tradition.
Presented by Bank of Botetourt, the event is expected to draw competitors and spectators from across Virginia and neighboring states for an evening of truck and tractor pulling, food vendors and mountain views overlooking the James River.
Gates will open at 4 p.m., with the first competition scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $20 at the gate, while children ages 10 and younger will be admitted free.
This year’s competition will feature seven classes: 8,000-pound Light Limited Pro Stock, 10,000-pound Super Pro Farm, 11,000-pound Altered Farm, 6,300-pound Modified Street, Truck Outfitters 6,300-pound Outlaw 4×4, National Sportsman’s and Street Diesel Run What You Brung.
In addition to the competition, attendees can enjoy a variety of food vendors and beverages throughout the evening. Outside coolers will not be permitted because of Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control regulations.
“One of the things that makes this event special is that it’s something the whole family can enjoy,” co-organizer and farmer Ned Jeter II said. “You have the excitement of the truck and tractor pull, but you also get to spend an evening outdoors with incredible views of the mountains.”
Co-organizer Darrell Jeter said the event has become a popular destination for families looking to make a full day of activities in Botetourt County.
“We love seeing generations of families come out together to the farm,” Jeter said. “It really makes for a great Saturday in Buchanan– spend the day at the Botetourt County Fair, then bring the family down to The River Farm for an evening of truck and tractor pulling.”
Organizers said the event has grown into one of the area’s signature community gatherings while maintaining the small-town atmosphere that has helped make it a favorite over the years.
The Jeter family also expressed appreciation to title sponsor Bank of Botetourt, along with the event’s sponsors, volunteers and community partners for helping continue the annual tradition.
The River Farm is located at 1320 Mount Joy Road in Buchanan. Organizers encourage attendees to follow The River Farm or Jeter Farm on Facebook for event updates and additional information.
