The Rev. David A. Dickerson has served as Fincastle Presbyterian Church’s part-time Interim Stated Supply since Fall 2017. This coming Sunday, September 27, will be his last Sunday in the pulpit. He will be retiring for the second time. His last retirement was in 2017 from the Presbyterian Church of Radford. He graduated from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond in 1985 and served Olivet Presbyterian Church in the Charlottesville area, Bethesda Presbyterian Church and McElwee Chapel in Rockbridge Baths, and then The Presbyterian Church of Radford.
David and his wife Patsy are residents of Fincastle and will remain in Fincastle. He was born to Mary Lee and Eli Dickerson and grew up in Hillsville, Va.
When he reflects on his ministry in Fincastle, he said that his service was a “symbiotic” relationship. He feels like he was able to “steer” the congregation through the Covid era and that the congregation helped him grow in his ministry through persistence. It was a very tough time for many congregations, but Fincastle Presbyterian Church persevered and came out stronger after the experience of no “in-church” worship services, he commented.
Dickerson said he feels that it is time for the church to support a full-time pastor and grow as only full-time pastor can lead a congregation.
