The new year has not been good to the Lord Botetourt boys basketball team.
Coming into the week the Cavaliers had yet to win a game in 2017, and they were hoping to snap a seven-game losing streak when they traveled to Rockbridge on Tuesday night.
Botetourt will have three straight road games beginning with the trip to Rockbridge. On Friday LB is at Alleghany, and that’s followed by a game at Jefferson Forest next Tuesday, Jan. 31. They finally retu
rn home on Friday, Feb. 3, when they play host to William Fleming.
Botetourt hosted a stout Northside team last Friday and dropped an 81-48 decision to the 12-4 Vikings.
“The score of the game is not a good indicator of the week we had,” said LB coach Chad Conner. “We had an excellent four days of practice leading up to the game, and there were a lot of positives. I thought we did a much better job of handling their press than the first time we played them. They are a very good team who lives off of causing chaos. We made a couple of adjustments to how we attack a press and the guys executed well, cutting down on turnovers against it.”
Noah Taylor had 12 points on four three-pointers and Max Burke also had a dozen. Evan Eller had seven points and six assists for the Cavaliers.
“We shot the ball pretty well (44 percent), but they shot it extremely well (60 percent, 42 percent from three-point range),” said Conner.
